Had this issue for weeks now and I've finally tracked it down!
Whenever you use White Balance correction in the VFB, if you render at a relatively large res (anything over about 1k) when the render finishes (it says "Done...") it takes ages to "unfreeze" and allow you to work again. Talking 20, 30+ seconds. As soon as this WB is disabled the problem goes away. Tested with standard rendering diffuse and with RenderMask script.
I don't get the problem at all when using Exposure controls or any of the other controls in the VFB. Only WB seems to cause the problem.
No RenderElements used. Super simple scene. (Just a ball and PhysCam).
Vray 3.20.03 stable build, max 2014 SP5, win 8.1.
