Any way to get a matte for VrayFlakesMtl?

I have a setup that requires a clear plastic to be coated with the VrayFlakesMtl.
I am using affect shadows in my clear material, but when I add the FlakesMtl on top I loose the transparent shadows.
It there any way to get the flakes material to affect shadows, or even just get a matte out of it so I can just mask the non flake areas in the blend material?

The shadows from the VRayFlakesMtl are completely opaque that's why the result looks unexpected. This is an area that might be improved in the future V-Ray versions.
As for now what could be done is to replace the shadows from the FlakesMtl with the help of the VRayOverrideMtl, just plug the FlakesMtl as a base and a fully transparent shader as a shadow mtl.
Then use this OverrideMtl as a coat material of your original shader and the shadows should remain transparent.

Another option would be to bake the FlakesMap and then use that map as a Opacity Map - with this setup you will get a proper shadows from the FlakesMtl.
