  • White Specs

Lately, I have been getting those little white specs in my render. The specs are in the reflections and raising the subdivs does not help. I am using IRR + LC and an HDRI. I turned on subpixel mapping and the HDRI is invisible, however, I am still getting the specs.

Ive been plagued by those a lot lately and its becoming a serious problem even with using Max Ray Intense that often doesn't get rid of them all no matter how high or low I take the value. One thing that did work for the most part for me was in the vray material under the options tab changing the Treat Glossy Rays as GI to Always if I remember correctly.

What kind of material do you have there? Any GGX BRDFs involved?

        Best regards,

Yes. I use VMC to set all my materials to GGX BRDFs.

Ok. Next question: is there anisotropy involved?

I don't think so, unless it is on by default

                It is off by default.
Which V-Ray version is that, is Max Ray Intensity of any help?

Can you attach the scene so we could have a look what's going on?
We won't need the complete scene, if you could optimize it by removing all unrelated to the issue assets that would be great.

My last render seemed to have render fine. Basically, I increased the AA until they were gone.

Just going to post an image here before uploading the scene, maybe it's setting related. Basically an interior with a very large window.

After 7.5 hrs hours of rendering at 4K.

Edit: might have something to do with the Mesh lights. I haven't really tested anything as I had very little time. Those circular thingies are mesh lights with the same shape as the casing which is a refractive material with some blurry refractions.

I ended up putting a median filter in photoshop to remove those but that blurs the thing quite a bit.

So is there any chance one of you might get me a scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can look at what's causing these? Just in case it's a bug.

                            Best regards,
