  • Subdivs Multiplier + Irradience Map

I don't know if this is a bug or can be chalked up to user error. I somehow set my Subdivs Multiplier on some geometry to 0 during testing out various values. All was fine for a while. I could render my tests using my test preset with irradiance maps at -5/-5. I use the universal method for finals that has brute force instead, and again at this point all is well.

I went back to test out possibly gaining some speed on the render using irradiance maps for the final render and all hell broke loose with crashes during the irradiance map passes. After realizing I could test with my irradiance map at -5/-5, something clicked. If I set it to -5/-4, vray would crash as soon as it would hit the geometry that had the 0 subdivs multiplier. Upping that subdivs multiplier to ANYTHING other than 0, the crashes went away. The crashes were instant and would dump to the desktop before I could really read the vray log.

Can we get a dumbass alert in future builds to check to see if that number is anything other than 0 and if you are using irradiance maps?

In short. If someone has been toying around with your subdivs multiplier and uses irradiance maps, and all of a sudden starts getting crashes during the irradiance map passes, let this be a tip that you should probably check your subdivs multiplier to make sure it's not 0.

This is fixed for the next update already. We can also get you a fixed build if you need it.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
