  • Possible Embree problem with 4930k

    Hi There,

We've found that the machines in our office that contain the Intel i7 4930k processor won't start to render some scenes with Embree turned on. Is this generation of processor incompatible with Embree?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work. Can you get me a V-Ray log file from one of those machines?

    Best regards,

Now that I've quizzed them a little harder, the guys in the office are telling a slightly different story; what's happening, and I've tested this myself, is that the first time you hit 'render' on a scene on a 4930k machine it renders fine. Every time after it hangs on the Light Cache part of the process for between 5 to 10 minutes, depending on scene complexity. This doesn't happen at all with Embree turned off, and it doesn't happen on newer processors (e.g. i7 5960x). But it does eventually start rendering as normal, after it gets over the Light Cache hang. Any of this make any sense?
V-Ray and Max are very latest versions on Win7

i7 4930k does support Embree. Some of our machines are i7 4930k and I don't think we ever had problems with Embree so far.

No, I haven't seen that. It would be helpful if you can get me either a V-Ray log from one of these machines, or a minidump file from the 3dsmax.exe process while it is such a frozen state.
