  • Render Memory on VMs

We're having trouble rendering on our Virtual Machines but not our unhosted machines. Our scene takes 40+GB of memory when it's got room to run unempeded however most of our nodes have 32GB. The 32GB machines running natively have no trouble rendering (albeit slower than ideal) however our VMs will crash. Anyone know any tricks to get VMs to be stable with lots of swap memory?

It's a silly question, but do you have appropriate settings for the swap file on your VM machines?

Yeah, swap memory settings should be more than sufficient (25GB) however it's dying when it hits just 1-2GB over the physical allocation.

That would be odd. What VM software are you using?

Hyper-V 2012 R2 is the host. Windows 10 Pro is the guest.

Maybe the Hyper-V developers would have some clue as to what is wrong?
