  • Opacity of any kind is taking forever

    Hi!

I usually don't post anything here but this time i really don't know how to solve it.

Last year i got a job to render some infographics about how some valves work. I had to render the valve so it looked real and then i had to animate a little bit to explain the way they behave. In the animation i had to make the metal semi transparent for them to see the entrance of air to the chambers. Anyways. The semi transparency didn't work well in a vray material so i've managed to do it blendidng the metal with a standard one with little opacity and it worked just fine. And it was also super quick to render those frames.

Now i have vray 3.0 and i was again commisioned to make the same informative media for another set of valves. but when i try to reproduce any kind of semi transparency (vray+ opacity, vray +refraction, standard + opacity, standard + vraymap on refraction slot). Non of the methods are quick. It suddenly jumps form 3-5 minutes the frame til almost 25 minutes.

The Gi is ok and is quick but the render takes too much time on the semi transparent part.

i can send the file if you want. I don't attach it here because its 130 megas. So please if you have some ideas it would help a lot to find an answer.

    Thank you in advance.

It would be good to send the file to support@chaosgroup.com so that we can look into it.

    Best regards,

PS you can see de problem from de "maincamera" at frame 421 on the material of the body of the valve. the body is called "VIFS130"
