Make sure that all machines are using the same V-Ray version. If the issue persist please send us log files from the workstation and the slave.

In the service authorization window you have to add a User name and Pass for the account who has the necessary permissions on this machine to register services, browse the network shared folders, e.t.c.
Please try to do a right click on the "Register V-Ray spawner service" ans choose "Run as administrator" then fill the user name and Password field again.

Let me know if this helps.

Did you try the "Run as administrator" option when running the service? Also please double check whether you enter the Username and password for your Windows account.

Mine is all sorted now, after typing in the username and password, the dialog stays up, but after double checking the windows services, it is in there, must be a gui issue, then obviously needed to add the correct user in the service prefs, surely chaos group could automate this whole procedure, even a tick box on install that sorts everything out auto would be nice, then entering the account username and password you want to use

That is what we did with the username/pass window. Instead of going and setting them in the service preferences you add them directly after running VraySpawner as a service.
Also we did not add an option for registering VRaySpawner as a service during installation since this is not such an often used option.

I'm having a similar problem. I've installed vray 3.3 and max 2016 on all 9 render nodes. 4 of them I can run the vrayspawner as I used to, in the startup menu so the vrayspawner runs in the tab bar. I cannot get 5 of my machines to work this way. They used to work fine with 3.2 and max 2014. I've run a backburner job too as I know this sometimes causes DR to work if not run initially.

I also tried setting the DR spawner as a service but needed a username and password. I ran as admin but no username or password combination worked.

I also made sure the firewall was off and the virus scanner was excluded any vray files. I also added the spawner as an exclusion to the virus scanner.

Not sure what to do now. Could really do with getting this working asap.

                  Any help appreciated.
                  Regards

I think the vrayspawner should have an option on install to register as a service and also be able to tell the installer which username and password to use as the service,
We run our nodes logged out, as this seems the only way to make them stable, not sure why, also who would want a render node logged in as it just uses more resources,
Also having this as an option on install would make deploying render nodes easier, possibly scripting the whole process, over multiple machines

What exactly happens when you start the spawner on the machines that do not work? Have you got any errors, restarts, crashes etc.
How those machines differs from the other 4 that work fine in terms of software(OS),hardware?
What is the status of Windows UAC and under what windows account types machines operate?

I actually resolved the issue but not because of anything complicated. I actually missed the most obvious thing that had changed but I didn't notice. The IP list on vray. I had installed 3dsmax2016 and vray some time ago but stuck with max 2014 until I had time to upgrade all my machines. Back then I input the wrong IP's for the 5 machines that were not working. Things are sorted now

I'm not on 2016 yet but have had similar issue with 2015 where I enter credentials during install of service but then nothing happens, even with run as admin. My guess is our IT may have something that is blocking it.
My workaround was to install service with -quiet option and add credentials later.

After Register V-Ray Spanwer as a service even if you do not fill the Username and password information the service will be running. You need to go to Services menu find the VRaySpanwer service and set it to use the administrator account user: Properties>Log-on (This account)>Browse>Advance>Find now
