  • Big Color Difference between 3.2 & 3.3

So I installed vray 3.3 to see if it would render differently.

here's the thing, if I choose to not convert a 3.2 to 3.3 settings, the image renders largely as expected. (1_noconversion.jpg)

when I do accept the conversion however, it renders a lot redder (2_conversion.jpg)

so I'm curious as to what's causing my converted render to be a lot redder and how I can counter
it by changing settings (which ones ?)

There was a change in internal colour space in vray 3.3 to srgb from cie.

If you want the old look run this line of code in the maxscript listener:

    Code:
    renderers.current.options_rgbColorSpace=0
for the old cie and change the 0 to a 1 for the new type.

      Ok, cool.

thanks for the fast answer ... would hate to not be able to rerender old projects.
(and with that, I mean coworkers who accidentely choose the wrong option )

Yep, I think vray 3.3 will give you a prompt for files that were made with 3.2 or less asking you which you'd like to use, specifically for dealing with old projects. Lele had a sneaky habit of saving a copy of the vray installer that rendered a project in with the job archive - not a bad move.

I've noticed it too, but I actually like the new colors at lot better. Something about darks being more rich... dunno.

We really need to tidy all this info up.
However, this was also in the official video showing off the main SP3 changes (Release announcement thread by Vlado): make sure you go through it!

Can someone elaborate on the difference? How are they different, why is it better, etc...

Yes I saw this link on your LinkedIN. It was very informative. As much as I value your knowledge and input as well as that of Chris, I couldn't help thinking that I wish he would stop interupting and just let you get on with it.
                  Kind Regards,
                  Morne
