  • Vray 3.3: Falloff map in shadow/light mode causes wrong result in layered output

    Hey guys,
I am having a problem with the attached scene. The teapot uses a VrayBlend, where the top layer is blended with a falloff map in shadow/light mode. However, when I render out in passes, the passes don't match the rgb result. When I switch the falloff map to Fresnel, everything works as expected. Is this the intended behaviour? I can remember that the shadow/light mode was not supported, but recently Svetlozar said that it is now.

    Regards

    Oliver

The "shadow/light" mode has never been supported officially; while it may work and it may produce some kind of result, it is a non-physical feature and we can't make any guarantees about the result.

Maybe there's another way to do what you need?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Sure, I will just use the Falloff in Fresnel or Perpendicular/Parallel mode. Doesn't make that much of a difference, actually.

I would really like it to be supported.. even if it's not physically accurate.. it's usefull to cheat stuff and make it look better often.. can it be supported ?

I like to use this on occasion. atm for me it's just the diffuse light select that is having problems, RGB and VRayLighting look fine.
adjusting the diffuse filter using a raw lightselect is a workaround but it would be nice to do it on a shader level

compared to the others it does have to do extra work sampling the shadows, I've always wondered if chaos could make an optimized version but may just be the nature of the beast.
