  • Crashes since update to Vray 3.30.03

    Hi there,

Since I've upgraded hosts and slave systems to Vray 3.30.03 I've been getting seemingly random crashes (on the host system). During the rendering of an animation and saving the seperate frames 3ds Max gives an unexpected error and subsequently closes. The previous version of Vray did not cause such problems. This is giving me quite a bit of problems at the moment as it's obviously not possible to constantly monitor the system overnight. In case it helps 3ds Max was able to write a minidump file, if this could be useful for determining the problem please let me know where I can sent it .

    Thanks in advance.

Same problem here. MAX is stable on my workstation but crashes often on my slaves after upgrading to 3.30.03.

        We're reporting the same issue.

We upgraded and animations will crash between 8-20 frames - hard max crash, no vray error. VRay log reports nothing abnormal, but seems to crash at prebuild of crashing frame every time. We reverted 4 of our farm machines back to older vray and crashes do not occur (also did not crash before upgrade). Regardless of adopting new settings or not on open (vray prompt asking to convert to new settings), if a machine is rendering a sequence of images with the new vray, it will crash, but not until several frames in. We're still tinkering with it, but do let us know if there's any specific information you need. We would LOVE to use the new features (it renders much faster!), but we also have to finish renders, so we might end up rolling back...

Edit: Where is the max minidump file? We can send this as soon as I find it.

Edit 2: Sent a couple of minidumps.

Normally in the temporary folder of the current user (you can type %temp% in Windows Explorer to go there) and it is called 3dsmax_minidump.dmp; however I think you must configure 3ds Max to write out minidump files in server mode - if you can't find a recent file there, let me know and I'll explain how to do it.

Thanks, I can see where the crash is; are you rendering the animations with DR? (The crash seems to be related to the distributed light cache.)

Thanks for the quick update! Going to run my nightly renders with brute force instead of the LC tonight. Looking forward to a more fundamental fix of course .
