distance tex in max displace not lining up

  • distance tex in max displace not lining up

    I've been trying to use the distance tex in my scene, but no matter what I do i cant seem to get it to allign with the source object.

    This is the kind of thing i'm looking at:


    It tracks it's position, but not in the right place. tried every combination of uv map settings with no luck.

    Here's the scene file if anyone would like to take a look:

    Make sure your displaced object (the plane in this case) is centered at (0,0,0) and it will work. If you need it in another place in the scene, use an Edit Mesh modifier to move the object vertices to where you need them to be.

      Perfect, thank you!
      for anyone curious it also works if you copy the object, move it to 0,0,0, attach the object that is in the correct place and then delete the one that's at 0,0,0
