  • VFB not shown

    I'm using 3dsmax 2012 and Vray 3.30.03.

Until yesterday all was fine..... today I can't see the VFB.
In my render settings "enable built-in frame buffer" is checked.
If I press "render", the rendering process goes well to the end but I can't see anything.

In the taskbar I can see the "vray frame buffer" process but if I select it, nothing happen apart 3dsmax windows goes out of focus.

If I press "Show VFB" in the 3dsmax viewport, nothing happens....

I've already reinstalled vray but without luck.

    How can I solve this?

Thanks in advance... it's a bit urgent... I'm feeling blind...

The 3dsmax frame buffer works well...just for your info.

On occasion I have to switch to another program and back.

I have noticed that in the latest versions of VRay the VFB does not automatically come to the front when rendering, which is Really annoying. I have to select it down from the task bar. I think this is when I minimize the VFB rather than closing it.

Could the VFB always come up when you start a render? (Or a setting for this if there was some reason it was changed.)

I've also had the problem where you can't open the VFB window. Fortunately this is extremely rare. For me just restarting Max always fixed the issue. I never had to restart Windows, let alone 3 times.

I have different behaviours with VFB window.

usually it appears in front of 3dsmax when render starts...but sometimes I have to select from the taskbar.

This morning I have tried and worked as the second case, few hours later I've closed 3dsmax and using a new scene or opened the previous scene it worked as expect (VFB window in front of 3dsmax after start of render).

What V-Ray version you are using?
Sometimes VFB or other windows are moved to another nonexistent monitors and become invisible for the main one. The following procedure usually restores the VFB window:

There is a script that might also help to restore missing windows:

I have the same problem and rebooting and restarting Max does not help. All of a sudden, between renders, the VFB simply disappeared. It's not on another monitor or behind anything. I'm running V-Ray 3.30.03 on Windows 10 in Max 2016.

I'm a bit afraid to run the script above as it was written in 2012 and way before Windows 10. I don't want to break my OS. I guess my last fix will be to uninstall and reinstall VRay unless anyone has any other ideas.

Look for a file named vrayvfbuser.ini in the %localappdata% folder on your computer and delete it - maybe it will help.

                  Best regards,

Thanks for the suggestion Vlado. I'll save it for another occurrence. I just uninstalled and reinstalled V-Ray completely. I saw there was an update in January so now i'm also up to date. In effect, that removes 'vrayvfbuser.ini' and replaces it with a new one. I'm OK now, I can see the VFB.
