  • Proxies are disappearing from XREF scenes on certain render nodes.

So rendering a scene that renders fine on the individual machine in question.

However, when that machine is acting as a backburner server, it drops proxy trees from the scene. The trees are in an xref file.

    Why is this happening?

    Hello,

Do you use UNC paths ? you can check that in the Asset Tracking (Shit+T).
Also, you can force UNC paths conversion in 3ds Preferences, Files tab -> File handling / Convert file paths to UNC checkbox. That will certainly require to close & restart 3dsmax to take effect.

Are there any error messages or warnings in the V-Ray log file?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        Obvious things to check:

vray and max are the same version.

is it unc or mapped drive its being pulled from.

is the machine running same windows version as others.

It was kind of hard to check, as the render nodes were remote (I was setting the job off from Berlin to my office in Bristol) - all the machines were set up the same.

Don't think I was using UNC paths, but I work of mapped drives... the solution was to merge the xref into the scene... since it was basically all proxies wasn't a problem.

Sadly I don't have time to troubleshoot, so I was hoping it was a known issue.
