  • Clipping planes bug?

    Using Max 2016 with SP2.

I have cloned a physical camera which already has a clipping plane on it. When I look through this camera and adjust the clipping planes, the viewport is unaffected.

    Any ideas?
    Kind Regards,

There's a bunch of issues with SP2. One of the biggest issues is Groups and instancing - things can go haywire quickly. I'm not sure if your camera issue is related to SP2 however.
BUT, a quick test in SP1 with a copied cam as well as an instanced cam, works fine

I'm not sure if they will fix anything else in a SP3 or not, with 2017 being around the corner (usually an end of March beginning April release)

OK so they suprised us and released SP3. In the log however I don't see a mention about anything related to camera. Maybe its one of those "undocumented" fixes
They do mention some AutoCAD import goodies which may be useful to some...

I think my issue was because for some reason I had viewport clipping enabled. I don't even know what that is!

I usualy switch on my viewport clipping because my display units are mm but my scene units are m. You then have issues zooming in close to small objects because clipping occurs automatically (even though it is switched off). Weirdly, to overcome this I switch ON viewport clipping then drag the bottom triangle all the way down to "prevent" any clipping. I can then work on smaller objects just fine.
