  • V Ray HDRI loader making the whole scene slow

    Hi,
Time ago, working on an animation in Max 2014 and V Ray 2.x we had several problem with textures flickering, the final solution we found was use V Ray's HDR bitmap loader on all textures instead of using default Max bitmap.
Now I have to do some updates to that old file and everything seems very very slow, even after rendering, just test rendering Max keep hanging for a while. Also every time I do zoom in the screen everything hangs.

I know there is a V-Ray script that will transform everything to V-Ray's hdri loader, is there a backward script??
We didn't experience any help using hdri loader other that stooping the texture flickering on our render farm.

    Your help is appreciated.
    PS.
Our scene is a large master planing Architectural Arch Viz, so we have a whole site with plants and trees and buildings around.

    Thanks.

There was an issue reported here (it involved HDRI loader + multi sub objects)

    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...wport-slowdown

Chaos is aware of it and had reproduced the error. I don't know if they've found & corrected the bug though.

      Thanks for the reply.
Did you found any script that will revert to regular bit map???

I found that using Material converter script, moving from V-Ray mat to Autodesk Mat then back to V-Ray mat. it delete the VRay HDRI loader but some of the other values (Glossy transparency) also change too, and break the instancing too.... so it kind of work but it has drawbacks.
a simple script that swat the thing would be more effective and efficient.

      Thanks.

We will actually have a solution for this in a couple of days, so we can just get you an updated build.

        Best regards,

That would be great! I will really hate to have to go through the material converter to try to fix it. The project in question is in waiting for now so if we could get an updated VRay version we could use the scene as is to test it out.
thank you I look forward to the update.

There is any updates regarding this issue?
Sadly I am again working in a old file that was build with VRay HDRI loader for every single texture and the performance of the scene is just insane.
I am in Max 2016 with latest V Ray 3.x
