  • this noise problem in vray 3.3

this noise problem in vray 3.3 is a big problem! in bright areas with a simple bright material vray produces a lot of noise (BF/LC default setup). I read about the GGX reflection problem produces a lot of noise to in certain angles, but vray is also producing a lot of noise in bright areas...
I had to switch to my old workflow IR/LC and the old subdiv per object to get clean renderings... that's sad, because the BF/LC workflow is so much easier.
it doesn't matter if you render with or without subpixelmapping...

    are there fixes soon?

If you mean the issue that comes up if you have "subpixel mapping" and "clamp output" enabled, then yes - we are working on a fix. There's no need to switch to switch to irradiance map for that; simply turning off "subpixel mapping" should be enough.

If you don't have "subpixel mapping" enabled, then it would be best to get me an example scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com as I'm not sure what issue you are talking about.

      thanks for reply.
it's not only the subpixel mapping, it's also on bright areas http://c2n.me/3wslcgQ.png I know this is worse quality, but I don't get this clean.
but this with clamp output I didn't know. I try to disable both for testing.

Do I need any of the textures to reproduce the issue?

[EDIT] I see that you do have subpixel mapping and clamp output enabled, so yes - this will be fixed. I will let you now as soon as I have a build.

            Best regards,

Does it go away if you turn off the "subpixel mapping" option?

                Best regards,

                  the problem here is

                  first image
                  subpixelmapping off
= very smoth image only in very bright (reflective) areas are fireflies are showing
                  render time 0:24sec

                  second image
                  subpixelmapping on
= very noisey image no fireflies are showing
                  render time 0:13sec

vray 3.30.03 (i know there is a newer version but i dont mention something in the changelog what can slove this!?)

                    Hello Vlado,

can you give a rough estimate when this problem will be fixed ? We´re going to start an annual project that will run till october and I´d really like to update before.

I can get you a build around the end of the week. If you don't have access to the stable builds on the nightly builds server, let me know and we'll arrange that for you. I will let you know when the builds are out.

                      Best regards,

The problem also shows up on exteriors....
                            But I found a quick and dirty-fix.
Use Dust&Scratches in Photoshop, Radius 1px, threshold 60levels. maybe in your case other numbers will do the job...its not ideal for a production image but for a wip its ok

i made a small test for a workaround.
the only way is to turn off subpixel mapping and raise your renderquality settings.....
