  • Noisy matte shadow

    Hey guys.

Rendering a car which is lit by one HDR map in a dome light. The plane that it sits on is set to be a matte object in the vray properties panel with an alpha contribution of -1. "Shadows" and "Affect Alpha" are both ticked. When I render on a black background the shadow is very noisy when i comp it back with a lighter background. When I render it with a lighter background the shadow is cleaner but it doesn't comp properly. Obviously it's receiving more samples in this case.

My question is, is there a way to clean up the shadow noise without blowing out render times using the new 3.3 sampling method? Or would it be better to go back to using local subdivs method and just increasing the light subdivs?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers.

Worked it out. Just need to crank the shading rate up.
