  • IES lights and reflection

    Hello,

We're getting into using more IES lights and just noticed that IES lights are not visible in reflections unless we lower the glossiness. I can't seem to find any information on this - why is the reflection only visible when you drop glossiness? It makes sense that every natural material under the sun has a glossiness value below 1, even if it's .99. Should all materials have a value under 1?

Additionally, do IES profiles come with default intensity and/or color temp values? We were under the impression that they could and vray isn't respecting that, but we could be totally wrong, just seeking knowledge.

Anyone have any resources that we can learn practically all there is about IES lights and how they work in vray? Thank you in advance!

This is how V-Ray IES Light works for the moment, the reflections becomes visible only when the HightLight glossiness is different than 1 and yes if you would like to see the reflection of the IES light you should change HGlossiness value of all reflective materials to be less than 1.

V-Ray Supports Intensity values of the IES lights, not sure about the temperature value though.

The documentation about V-Ray IES Lights could be found here:
