Does anyone have a clue what's going on here?
The ground plane is set as a matte object and is using a gradient ramp in the opacity channel. you can see the fall off of the opacity from the gradient ramp in the attached image with the red matte. The other image shows the matte shadow pass which does not seem to be respecting the gradient ramp falloff.
I also tried using a bitmap radial gradient instead of a gradient ramp map. Same thing happens.
