  • can't launch "Launch Vray Licesne Server" software - error 17

I was having issues with vray for 3ds max 2015 on Win10 so I uninstalled vray and the licence/dongle apps.

Now I am getting this error message. I have my Wibukey program installed and my dongle in my front USB port (usb 2.0 port).

Maybe I have to activate the Wibukey program somehow - its all quite confusing.

I'm also getting a this message abou tthe Wibukey Network from the WibuKeyServer Manger software...

"WibuKey Network Server is NOT running!"

The "Launch Vray License Server"is also posted twice in the dropdown menu under the START button "All Apps > Chaos Group" rollout

The only thing I could suggest is to completely remove/uninstall anything related to vray and wibu, remove hardware installation leftovers, files,... clean the registry, reboot, reinstall and reboot. See if it works.

I'll try but I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully one of the devs will look at this thread and help out too.

              not working.

Question: Does the dongle have a LED light indicator when it is plugged into a USB port? Mine doesn't have a light.

also....it seems that my dongle isn't being detected. screenshot below.

Mine doesn't have a light either. I guessed you tried different USB ports? Have you tested it on a different computer?

Most probably V-Ray license server can't find a dongle. Please try the following:

                  http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...can'tstart

Also you can contact us directly at support@chaosgroup.com when having license issues.

i have tried different ports, yes. still no go.

I have wiped everything related to vray and the Wibukey software > then I reinstalled just the newest Academic edu Vray fro 3ds Max 2015 3.3.005 x64 > didn't seem to install the Wibukey drivers > then I installed the Wibukey driver software > after the install I tried lauching the Vray License Server and I keep getting that error 17 message > I opened up 3ds max 2015, checked the renderer dialogue box, i get the error - 200 "could not obtain a license"

                    I'm at a loss here.

I think thats the case too. I've tried USB ports on my back I/O and the front I/O.....the dongle isn't being reconized by the device manager under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Is my dongle broken? Is the software/WibuKey driver just not cooperating? I downloaded the correct Window version of the Key from the website. This all seems confusing.

The only way to verify is to test if another computer recognizes your dongle. It's quite coincidental though .

Desislava and I had a web seminar yesterday. We concluded that the Dongle I have is faulty. He told me to contact my local reseller with the emails forwarded to them and the seller got back to me and actually tried to charge me a replacement!!!! haha. At this point they are most likely going to tell me to contact the manufacturer of the product (you guys - vray) and get my replacement dongle from you. How do we start the process of getting a replacement? I don't think it is right for me to pay for a device that became faulty with no fault of mine.
