  • long delay when opening the mateditor

this is an issue for so long now, but maybe only for me...
if you open the material editor there's a delay of several seconds till it opens... now I have found out if vray is uninstalled the delay is gone... also with corona as default renderer d the delay is not present. so is this a vray problem, in other words maybe with searching for a license? I need a network license...

does anybody else have this issue?
    thanks for clarifying.

    best regards

It almost opens instantly here, Vray 3.3, Corona Demo and Octane Demo. Plus a ton of mat plugins. When it opens, it's not completely loaded, takes takes 10 seconds or so, but that's because he's 'rendering' the materials. So that's on me.

It opens fast here, however, the balls load one-by-one pretty slowly.

Even with standard materials? I had that a while back in Max 2014. Don't remember how I resolved it. If I ever did.

It is totally absurd that max doesn't save thumbnails as image files inside the *.mat file. I mean come on, we got a library of around 20 different concrete materials and if I want to pick one off the library I have to wait one full minute to being able to drag one out. ANd as if that wasn't enough if I disable rendering previews and pull it out and collapse the library after, max still frickin thinks it has to render them all again. Jeez, I could rage about this all day... Anyways - maybe in your case it has something to do with that? Do you have several material libraries (custom ones) loaded and it has to create them actually if you open the mat editor for the first time?

The view cube seems to solve a lot of display issues, or at least it used to.
