  • Error on huge scene when rendering

    Hi,

I got the following error when attempting to render a scene (previously rendered with 3.0, now with 3.3):

I know its a long shot, I am currently dissecting the scene myself, even tried to merge it al into a new one yet still no success...
Does that kind of error / position in code suggest anything in particlar where I could search?
    Software:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4
    V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

    Hardware:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)

I have it down to the Laubwerk Trees plugin.
Funny enough if I merge one of those Laubwerk trees into a new scene, the scene crashes. When I create one from scratch it renders fine. Something seems to have messed up the data somehow.

Here's 2 scenes, one with a merged tree and one with a tree created from scratch for you to reproduce. Just press on render in these scenes. The merged one will crash, the scratch one will render fine:

    You'll need the following plugin:

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4

      Hi,

Merged scene doesn't crash here but i got an error Null mesh in StatickmeshInfo::compile geometry() and empty VFB.

When I switched to Viewport > Render geometry, the mesh dissipated, which is most probably the issue here. Fore some reason the link between the node and its asset is broken. Loading the same tree object from the Library make it work again.

Am I missing something or this is the same issue with slightly different behavior?

It is the same, I noticed too when I reload it, the mesh renders fine. Does it not crash with 3.30.05 and 3ds max Design 2014?

I'll propably get rid of these objects in my scene although it is a bit of a hassle since there are hundreds of them and I'll need to script-replace them somehow.
So as you described it it would be an issue of the plugin and not one of VRay?

Since they were all isntances I could fix it by reloading one of them. It lost the scaling randomnes but I could do that afterwards. ANyways, renders fine now, propably a problem with the plugin.
