I haven't had to mess with a V-Ray setting since 3X. Adaptive 1/24 (default) BR+LC (default). The only thing I change is the dynamic memory and I like the render to start from the middle, so I set it to spiral. I have tried lower settings, but the defaults still render faster and cleaner.

Perfect! Most things are blue, except for edges, which are green.

hmmm, at default i have just red everywhere, but stil i cant afford the high render times so i just bump up the msr and dropped the max subdivs which seem to give better render times and a better sample rate, however i was doing this with IM now am using the new method to avoid splotches, i sent the scene to support anyhow so they can dissect it but for this interior and trying to not use area lights in the windows but just sky portals, i usually get faster renders that way but testing it the other way on this scene with sky portals, also i am not using strong fill lights in the scene and trying to let the natural light take effect in all rooms, i saved a scene with the default settings so later i can get back to it but for now am full speed ahead with this and rendering big to avoid any blurriness but this scene doesn't require any high res shots so i just have to deal with that.

I haven't used IRR in awhile; BF and LC is what I am using for both interiors and exteriors. Now, remember, I have the super computer now. Last week, when I had to work on my old machine, I had to lower almost all my settings to get work out.

yeah, i remember, you don't have a super computer you have a beast! i was getting about 4 and half hours to complete the interior so now at max subdivs 12 and msr 60 its at 3 hours and noise looks ok but sample rate is shit but i usually don't even bother sometimes looking at the sample rate because i dont see the sense if i have a clean render to go ahead and try to get a clean sample rate by bumping up settings, here is a snap, its rendering so some of the sample rate and the actually render, its a small view but its at 2k so gonna leave it, after that am heading back over to IM nowClick image for larger version

now i dropped max subdivs to 8 and raised msr and looks ok, stil clean, will denois in the end, now sample rate is mostly red everywhere and render time down to 1 hour and 20 min for simple scenes and hour and half is max i will afford at 2k with Bf

Even if you are getting a clean render with lower setting, you might get a clean image faster by using your sample rate pass as a guide. It is really nice to have the horse power, well worth selling my kidney. Now, render times are a non issue and I can concentrate on making good images for my clients.

standart settings won't work for me with scenes where there is alot of indirect Gi

                          i agree with glorybound.
if you keep lowering your AA max subdiv, you will not end up with a sharp image, i see you're using DOF also.
DOF in my experience need higher AA then same scene witout DOf.
one quick way to fix render time in a very tight deadline is use vraylights without portal mode in windows & adjust the intensity manually.

I had a kitchen that was taking to long and removing the HDRI, and Portals; replacing them with V-Ray plane lights did the trick. It didn't look as nice, but it was close and fast.

actually was using it but was getting just longer render times by checking the sample rate and raising the max subdivs, the default setting were my starting point

that's what i normally do too, especially when using IM and renders are blazing fast but am trying to use BF for this one and let vray control the subdivs for everything to see
