  • Shading problems with Directional light + big "Area shadows" size

It seems like there's a shading problem when using Directional light + Area shadow with size above 200. Up until size 200 the shading is ok but if we set it to 300 or higher, objects start having shading problems - thick dark wireframe overlays. This is with Vray 3.30.01 and Max 2016 SP3. I don't think that we've encountered such problem with previous versions of Vray.

Please check the images below. This is a simple scene with just a plane, teapot and directional light. All Vray settings are at their defaults. The material is a simple Vray material with just blue diffuse color and no maps.

    Hi,

Thank you for pointing out this issue, we might have to put some limits there. However, I'm going to create a bug report in our system and will let you know when we have a solution.

Putting a limit would be the worst way to handle this I think - except when it's a max issue.
      Software:
      Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
      3ds Max 2016 SP4
      V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

      Hardware:
      Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
      64GB RAM
