Probably an asset resolving issue. Check the asset tracking dialog when you open the file and check where the bitmap is pointing.

Does the same happen if you open the file on a different computer? If yes, maybe we should take a look at it.

        Best regards,

I had this issue a million times already, I don't think it's Vray related. The only thing that helps is delete the bitmap node and create a new one.

I had this, too. In some cases it helped to "Reload" or to "View" the image inside max.
              Software:
              Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
              3ds Max 2016 SP4
              V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

              Hardware:
              Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
              64GB RAM

yeah your right, its the only thing that works but its awful when its a big scene, the origin of the file is suspect to me though, i think issues were there when the file was originally created, i didn't start it so i guess that's where it is and am not sure what version etc was used but when i create my scenes from scratch all is ok, clean and perfect

Have you tried to convert Bitmaps to V-Ray HDRIs and see if it is better or not?

no i haven't, manually each bitmap you mean? i have always wondered what are the benefits of using the hdri loader instead of the regular bitmap loader for loading regular images

Right click > convert bitmaps to vray hdri does it for all the bitmaps. I thought vray HDRI has better filtering and I've read that it might be faster in loading too, but not quite sure. Since Vray HDRI supports real world scale display in viewports I never use a regular bitmap anymore.

interesting, i wonder if anyone has seen better render times or anything similar, that would be nice

another thing i ran across though few times which i never checked was when viewing very large maps with the hdri loader its very blurry compared to the standard bitmap loader which gives near correct results, any reason why?

You mean in the viewports? Or something else?
