placing hdri in the environment background slot

  • placing hdri in the environment background slot

    when doing this its almost as if its overlayed on the foreground objects as well, don't like using this method but had to post this since it looked weired, how to avoid this?

    What coordinate system is it set to? Should be spherically mapped environment I think?

      actually i have it using max co ordinates and set to screen since its not a hdri so idk if that's the real big issue and its not a spherical image but stil don't get why its creating a overlay effect

        Because it's not a spherical image you're using. It's a normal "screen" sized image. That's just the way max works. Because it's basically a "flat" image, max has no way of calculation angles or an actual environment as such, therefore you will see this flat image whereever you have any reflections/refractions.

        The only way to work out the environment from a flat image, is to just project it straight onto screen. Therefore it has the appearance of your objects being seethrough.

        You can attempt to avoid it by specifying a reflection override in the VRay environment tab (reflection and refraction overrride in the environemtn may be needed) You can try just making it black, otherwise use any interior HDRI you have and blur it a bit.

        Which airport is this by the way?

          tried the vray environment tab overrides also just doesn't seem to work for me from the tests i am making, guess its back to my old method of placing the image on a cylinder which usually is ok but doesn't give accurate reflection to the objects around, unless its a great hdri, usually the hdris seem too large and out of scale in spherical mapping, especially in the skies

          also its just a concept actually, nowhere specific

            OK but you shouldnt put anything in the override environment, only reflection override and refraction override (don't use the image you have in the environment override)

            You can also stick a vraysky in the environment override when using vraysun and make the max environment black. Then in the VFB settings stick in your background in here

              mhmmm, have to try those, i already just loaded a skydome in the environment slot which seems ok also and i have it how i want it will give this a try, i tried the background in the vfb just once i need to try it more
