  • Script for the old VRay camera in 2016/17

    Hi,

    I know there have been posts about this, and I'm very late to the 2016 3DS party (I've gone straight to 2017) - but can someone please help me with writing a few lines of script which I can set up as a toolbar button so that I can click it to create an old style VRay Physical Cam (as in 2014) ?

    The line;

    vrayCreateVRayPhysicalCamera()

    Puts a camera at the origin, pointing directly down and that I'd like a bit more than that.

    For example, for the Camera to be at (0, -2000mm, 1450mm) while the target is at (0,0,1450) ??

    Aperture, f/8, Shutter 1/100 and Color Balance to be Neutral.

    Can someone guide me to the lines of Maxscript I would need to write that will help me achieve the above please ?

    Many thanks.

      And is the default white balance of D65 fine? With the latest VRay that is now the white point anyways, so D65 and Neutral will be the same. Is that fine?
      Do you use vignetting or can I switch that off?

      Are you sure you want shutter 100? Thats a bit too bright for exteriors. Default is 200...

        Sorry Morne, I've only just seen you've been asking questions.

        I want this for Interiors, so actually 1/50th is what I use.

        I just cannot get my head around what this new 2016/17 camera is doing - I get in a very frustrated mess (like right this very instant) where I've got a tool and have NO idea how to use it......

        Hence I keep going back to what I know and understand - the 2014 VRayPhysicalCamera.

        I work in interiors and my default camera settings are;

        1/50, f/8, ISO 100 and Neutral Color Balance.

        My system units I leave as Inches and I work in mm.

        My frustration with the new camera / system is that it is quite connected (as i understand it) with the Exposure dialog box. The last time I read something about it, some things worked, some things didn't, none of that helped understand things, so I steered clear......

        I'd happily pay someone to Skype take-me-through what the hell is going on in all of that area of Max/V-ray

          Here you go.

          Unzip this then drop it into your viewport. Customise your UI and add this into your menu, quad or toolbar from the category "Morné Studio" > "VRayCam with target"
          It will work with SYSTEM units of inches, mm, cm and meter (Doesn't matter what is your display units)
          USE AT OWN RISK!

          VRayCam_with_Target_v01.zip
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

            Thanks Morne,

            Unfortunately I get an error message when I try to drop it into a viewport;

            "Could not open file 'C:\Users\Jez\Appdata\Local\Temp\7zE4774079\VRayCa m_with_Target_v01.mcr"

            Any ideas ?

            Thanks for all your help

              You should 1st save the zip file somewhere, like your desktop for example, then extract it.
              Drag and drop the mcr from your desktop to a max viewport (don't drag it from a 7zip view, extract it 1st)

              OR
              In Max in menu "Scripting" > "Run Script" > (from desktop or whereever you extracted the mcr to)
