  • Vray RT Crashing with CUDA error

    Hey.

We're receiving the following CUDA error whilst trying to render a live project.

error: ./src/ocl_tracedevice.cpp(1867) : CUDA error 719 : exception occurred on the device while executing a kernel

Looking at the vraylog file it doesn't appear to be a gpu memory issue:
Total memory for device 0 : 12288 MB, free 5560 MB
Total memory for device 1 : 12288 MB, free 7015 MB
Total memory for device 2 : 12288 MB, free 7015 MB
    Temps etc are fine.

We do have a pretty dense carpet created using forest pack - if we disable this then the scene renders first time. Any ideas on what the root cause will be and a workaround?

FYI. I have tried changing driver versions - both downgraded and upgraded with no luck (settled on the latest version 368.39). Interestingly last night we had various issues with "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" errors when rendering via vray RT. To fix it we changed the TdrDelay to an unsightly 100 which alleviated the issue and let us carry on with the job in hand - This was on a different scene, but possibly the two issue could be connected?

    Any help appreciated - Cheers!

    Are you using 3.40.02 ?
Also, do you have a scene with reproducible crash ? If yes I would like to check it here to see what is going on, so if you can send it to blagovest.taskov@chaosgroup.com it would be very helpful.

      Hi Blago,

      Yes, we're using 3.40.02...

Unfortunately we've signed an NDA on the project so we won't be able to send the working file through, I will have a look at removing all other assets aside from the forest pro object that seems to have been causing the issue & if I can successfully reproduce the CUDA error then I will get that file across to you. (In the interim we incrementally scaled the forest pack distribution map until we found a stable render - not quite the desired look we we're shooting for though).

      Back in touch asap. Thanks

We can sign nda as well if necessary.
Make sure that you use a recent forest pro as well. Sometimes this helps.

Ping us if you have something that we can look at .
