  • Waiting forever for render to complete since "render done" message appeared.

The render dialogue window is still visible saying "render done" and still after 1.5 hours it won't close so I can save/tweak the final image. I have 32gb ram. Rendering a 7000x4666 image. Done this at twice this res without issues before.

Cpu is sitting at 15%, memory at 4gb....

It has happened to me before and killing runtimebroker makes the dialog box react instantly.

Well, this issue is back with a completely different scene. Runtimebroker end task does nothing. 3dsmax just sits there on 15.8% cpu and 5gb memory usage. Can't do anything other than end 3dsmax task. Another 30 mins wasted

If this happens again, can you create a process dump file from the 3ds Max process and send it to me at vlado@chaosgroup.com ? With this file I'll be able to tell you in more details where it is stuck and if there is anything to do about it.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Hi Vlado. Just happened again. Max sitting there at the end of the render at 16% CPU and 5,311.9MB. 3dsmax.DMP is 6.8GB roughly. I can copy to my FTP and send the login details to you via email or maybe dropbox might be an option. Let me know the best way. Thanks

if you save vrimg, you should be able to keep your render.

also is your pagefile on a hard drive or ssd?

Max is completely unresponsive after render done. I cannot save to file. Pagefile on SSD windows drive.

I use batch camera render script.

but with that, if i tick save vrimg. then i get both that and the jpg or exr. I think its doing the same thing as saving vray raw from the frame buffer tab.

so needs to be sent off that way.

but if you do, you'll have a vrimg file that gets updated each time a bucket is done. and you can save whatever was rendered up until that point.

I had an issue with an old version of vray that i scenes which used a lot of ram (over 64gb) it would take just as long to unload the ram at the end as it did to render it in the first place. This all seems to have been fixed now. but saving vray raw, it allowed me to save those renders without having to wait until the ram was unloaded.

Hi Vlado. Did you have any luck with this. It's happened again. It seems to happen when I have a display driver failure with the Nvidia GTX1080 I'm using. I seem to get those a lot these days. Mostly when I'm trying to watch stuff on youtube whilst I'm waiting for a render. The display goes black...the display driver error message appears, the render completes and then it just stays with the render dialogue open saying rendering done.
                        Regards

From what I could see in the dump file, 3ds Max was doing something with the viewports; there were no active V-Ray threads, but 3ds Max was waiting for something in the DirectX library. My guess is that 3ds Max tried to redraw the viewports after the render and something went wrong there. I do get a lot of video driver crashes on my laptop too lately though not with 3ds Max specifically - not sure if it's some nVidia thing with the latest drivers.

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado
