  • motion blur question

Trying to reproduce a scene of a moving piece heavily motion blurred an lit with a strobing light.
This gives a linear pattern with more and less transparent parts.

I have tried to simulate it with strobing lights, strobing light material and an oscilating visibility but all seems to be ignored in my tests.
Is this a known limitation or am i missing something?

I think you get this effect when your camera is Filming with Low Shutter speed or Low frame rate.

You could create a similar effect with after effects Motion blur when you set the motion blur samples to a low value. Its not 100% accurate like in your picture but the same effect.

      cheers

I don't think this is going to work, V-Ray will always render a very smooth Motion Blur result no matter how low the Shutter Speed is.
The only way to get a similar result would be to duplicate the object a few times and make each copy offset +1 frame from the previous copy.

Yeah thats exactly what i did to solve this...

So the motion blur only recognizes Objects motions and everything else is just ignored?

In Maya we can do motion blur for area lights and light colors, so that will work there, just not sure about 3ds Max...

            Best regards,
