  • Checkboard

I have been trying to get this fixed over on the Autodesk forum, but I have not resolved the issue. At some point, someone inferred that it might be a V-Ray material issue. Unless it is a simple scene, I can't display my view-port as anything but clay or wire frame. If I display it anything else, I get the checkerboard and MAX crashes. This is 100% or the time, unless it is a simple teapot on a plane scene.

Have you tried to change the material preview to "Shaded material with maps" from View menu ? "Realistic material" tend to show this checker board for me too, but usually no more than 3 seconds per object.

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

I think I tried that, but I'll double check. It's impossible to open older projects, so you have to merge. If you go to four view ports and maximize the wrong one, one that is shaded by default, it'll crash.

this happens to me too...but not as consistently as Bobby...I kind of cross my fingers when I open files. 2016 works fine and sometimes I just go back and work in 2016. I'm currently on a Precision Laptop with a Nvidia Quadro K2000M card, Windows 10, with all the updates & latest nvidia drivers. Max was doing the same thing back on windows 8.1....

I can't manage to reproduce it. Does the issue persist only with VRayMtl/VRay? Furthermore do you get that crash with procedural textures only?

I only use V-Ray, so yes . It happens on every project, both old and new. I'll record my screen and post it.
