  • Problems wirh Vray Clipper and UV Mapping coordinates

    Hi,

i have some problems with the vray clipper and it would be great if someone could help me out on this.
I want to animate a chainsaw cutting several wood planks.
The planks have several different vray materials with a Multisub tex in the diffuse slot assigned
( 6 different textures for top/bottom, left/right and the two ends ) and 2 uvw maps with different channels.
I used a vray clipper in mesh mode to simulate the cut on the planks. Cutting works fine but unfortunately
the uv mapping on the cutted new edge got lost. I`like to achieve that the new cutting edge have the
same material and uv mapping then the uncutted part before.

    Any ideas for this ?

    Thanks for help

Unfortunately VRayClipper can't manage the UV mapping. A good workaround might be to have the plank on two parts (the cut part and the rest) then use VRayClipper only on the cut part of the plank.

      Hi Zdravko,

thanks for your quick reply. The scene was already setup in a way, that i have the plank splitted in two parts.
After the cut, it is falling down ( simulated with massfx ), so the cut part ( and the end with the wrong uv`s ) will be seen at some time when the cut part falls and rotates.
Also when i would apply the VRayClipper to the cut part, once it moves and falls out of original position the VRayClipper won`t influence it anymore.

It seems that the uv`s from the cutter object are somehow transferred to the new cut edge...is that true ?
Also wondering how the original cake scene from the new features video was made. The hole on the cake should also had some new uv`s or how
was the new texture mapped on it ?

      cheers

I found a workaround, so for everyone interested in it i did the following:

I splitted the plank in 3 parts, one for the final cutted wood, one for the 1 mm saw cut ( which will be deleted / clipped by the VRayClipper ) and one for the pieces, which will fall to the ground.
All have the same absolut uv mapping and textures on the outside, just the wood ends have different textures / shaders. So it looks initially as one plank and
i am flexibel with assigning different textures to the old wood ends and the newly cutted brighter wood ends.

For the future it would be great to have an additional feature for keeping the old uv`s and id`s or to adopt the ones from the clipper mesh.
Also i`m still curious about uv mappings in the the example with the cake in the new features video for 3.3.

        cheers

The cake it self doesn't have UVs set, instead the texture is tiled. But there is no issue there because the cutter is not animated like in your scene.
