  • VRay Displacement Mod & map tiling

    Hello,

I'm facing a weird problem with VRay Displacement modifier. It seems that when Type is set to 2d mapping, the Tile option (bitmap parameters) being off is ignored, as described in the manual. Can this be fixed ? I have a logo to map for displacement, so I set both U and V tiling to off. Please forgive me if it may sound like a noob question, but my activity rarely requires the use of displacement ... what should make me decide whether to use 2d mapping or 3d mapping ? the use of both isn't very clear to me.

    Thanks for any advice

    Regards.

In short; 2D mapping is best used for just textures because it doesn't support procedurals; but tiling is something different (see below).

    From the manual:

The 2D mapping (landscape) method will ignore the Tiling parameters specified in the textures themselves; as a side effect this means that it will not work with the Real-world map size options in the Bitmap and other textures. Instead, you must modify the UVW coordinates of the object, or use the 3D mapping method.
The 2D mapping (landscape) method only supports one UV mapping channel.

      Hello Ashley,

Thanks for your answer - that's what I had seen in the manual.
I'll have to play a bit with displacement, I'm not very comfortable with it.
