IES Noise

I'm having a problem with noise and IES lights.

Here's what's happening -
I do a test render in one space with only some lights turned on. Its kinda noisy. Then I turn on some other light layers, render, and the noise increases like crazy!
See example attached. (Don't judge the ugliness; early on, in an ugly project.)
This also happens with HQ renders, not just test quality.

Any ideas?

check probabilistic lights option

Yes, most probably you have Probabilistic light turned ON. It's the default but sometimes it can produce issues like this. Turn it OFF and it should go away. Sometimes I forget about it and wonder why my directly lit areas have a lot of noise.

To avoid this kind of problem in the future, I'd suggest you to set the Proba Lights option OFF in your maxstart
