  • Can I project a rectangular texture with vray light?

I have a directional Vray light (rectangular) and I want to add a texture to it that is very wide and not very tall. I want to project the texture using the light.

I have turned up directionality to about .8. The light always wants to create a round lit area even though the bitmap I'm projecting is very wide and not very tall. Adjusting the bitmap tiling doesn't seem to change things noticeably.

Is it possible to project a rectangular image and retain it's shape (i.e. aspect ratio?)

Does it work if you check the box in options that states "No Decay", so the light won't falloff? You will probably have to lower the light multiplier because without decay it will be very bright.

Increase the directional parameter to 1.0 - this will reduce the spread of the light and the projected texture will keep it's shape.

Otherwise, the more spread out it is (the lower the directional parameter), the closer to the lit surface the light has to be to get a "sharp" projection.
