  • bf/lc rendering almost inverted ?

    hi,
    latest vray(not nightly)
getting weird output just switching from irr map/lc to brute force/lc. testing using override material it looks like all the direct light is either reduced or switched off. it looks almost inverted ?
    anything obvious ?

    thanks

If the image on the right is the BF/LC one, then check if you have any lights with "Store with irradiance map" ticked on.

I was debugging something similar for a friend of mine at the studio I was working for previously. He spent a lot of time searching what the problem may be, because the problem was not so obvious as on this picture.

Basically there was a V-Ray light inside of lamp shade, so it was very close to the lamp shade, which picked up a lot of light's indirect illumination and bounced it off to the scene, making it appear that direct illumination of the light actually works, even if it did not. That, along with receiving already made scene from other studio made the problem a bit more challenging to discover.

So... I think it would be appropriate for V-Ray to internally ignore this checkbox on lights as long as primary GI is not set to Irradiance Map. That would remove a bit of room for user error.

yes, that was it. i agree about it autodetecting and switching it off on render automatically though would be useful. in a scene with dozens of lights it could be a right pain.
        thanks
