  • Mtl when loading ABC files through Vray Proxy

    Hey guys,

I have a bunche of objs with materials.
I selected all of them and exported them through in Alembic (*.abc) to a single obj.

When I load that file back in a Vray proxy to render it, I lost all the mtl and it render with the wirecolor.
Logical would you say, I know, but how do I do to apply the mtl back?
I though Alembic would be clever enough to save the mtl with the meshes.

    Any thoughts?

You can set all the shaders that where used on the exported meshes in one Multi/Sub-object material, set the IDs and apply it to the Proxy.

I have 305 different objs and each one is using a multi sub mtl.
I won't be able to assign each id by hand, is there any way to export the selected objs as abc and create automatically a multisub mtl like the vray mesh export does?
Can the vray mesh export export to abc in stead of vraymesh?
The only reason we have to go with abc files is that we need motion blur for more than 1 frame, otherwise we would stick to our usual vrmesh.

What you can do is to export all geometry to VRayProxy first with with Create Multi/Sub-Object Mtl option enabled, then Import them back to geometry with Import as mesh button (at this stage they will already have IDs) and then Export everything as .abc file.
