Okay, this problem just started. I am thinking it might be related to Max 2017 Service Pack 3 but I'm not sure.
Here is what I did....
Vray is my current renderer.
In a fresh scene, I created a sphere with 32 segments.
I hit Render.
Then I went back and lowered the number of segments. The sphere starts to look really weird in the shaded viewport. It renders weird too. If I change the # of segments back to 32, everything is fine. Adding an Edit Poly modifier will also fix it.
Is this happening to anyone else? This does not happen when I am using the Scanlline renderer (I just tested it -- but I never actually use Scanline).
I've attached the file if someone wants to see what I'm seeing.cylinder normals problem.zip
