I have 2 Vrayclippers to clip the edges of a tiled roof which is created using Forest Pack Pro.

Unfortunately I appear to be loosing the direct light shadowing from the Vray Sun along the tiles bottom edges.

This looks to be in the areas where a Vrayclipper mesh object intersects the forest pack or where it would cast it's own shadow on it.

I have found a thread which suggested changing the vray object properties to static geometry but this doesn't seem to help in this case.

    I am using Vray 3.40.03

A quick response on this would be very much appreciated.

    Best,

    Dan

Please send me just the roof with the clippers at peter.matanov@chaosgroup.com
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

      Peter,

Thanks for the quick response, I have emailed you the file.

        Hi Dan and Peter,

Did you get to the bottom of this?
I'm experiencing a (I think) similar issue, but not with Forest Pack. I'm just using regular vray proxy objects and I'm not seeing shadows where I'd expect them.

As you can see in my render, the first tree is standard geometry and it casts shadows on itself and the scene normally, the other trees which are proxies don't appear to cast shadows on themselves or the scene. Same with the furniture - it's not casting shadows on the scene but it's receiving shadows from the scene.

        I've tried:
        - using only static geometry
        - making sure secondary ray bias is 0.0
        - increasing max transparency levels
        - disabling embree
        - disabling probabilistic lights

        Cheers

          Hey Rob,

          Yes, we got this one

Try assigning a completely opaque material to the VRayClipper (white on opacity slot).

            Thanks Peter.

Completely transparent material does indeed solve the shadow problem. The only problem now is I was using the material applied to the clipper on the cut surface. I wanted to have a single material applied to all the cut faces.
Is there any way around this?

            Cheers

              Hi Rob,

Try setting the VrayClipper objects geometry Dynamic in it's Vray properties, and the material to whatever you need.

As suggested by Peter to me. Although, this method's not always successful (didn't work with forest pack 4.4 but did with 5.02)

Sorry I meant opaque. Make the clipper's material whatever you want as long you have a texture on the opacity slot.
