  • Compositing simple scene with Vray and FastSSS2 shader

    Hello everyone,

I'm just digging through web and decided to ask just in the source. The problem is that my composited output is not i 100% similar as RGB rendered file. I'm talking about 3dsMax 2016 with Vray 3.40.02. You can look at the attached screens and maybe you will find something wrong in this setup?

    Thank You in advance.

This seems to work fine for me. Can you post your Max file too?

    Best regards,

Oh well... I've attached max scene but it's basic setup with default settings. From my side, RGB is a bit different from the composited one so in my opinion its not working so fine And I'm seeking for answers here and there. The difference becoming less visible when I'm getting rid of sss specular and adding it using blendMaterial with shellac mode on.

There is something strange in the Lighting render element - it contains negative values in the SSS area, if you clamp its Min value to 0 the composition matches the RGB pass.
Will investigate in more details and we'll update the thread when we have some news.

It looks like it is a bug, older versions of V-Ray does not calculate negative values for SSS shaders.
Will report it into our system and will update this thread when it is fixed.

Problem SSS area outputting negative value with Ligting element.
              When will it be solved?

It has not been solved even at 3.50.04.

I would recommend using the alSurface material instead.

                  understood.
The FastSSS 2 shader is a legacy feature...
