  • Noisy VrayLightSelect - VrayLight Dome

I am rendering a light select of of a dome light that has a VraySky applied to it. The light in the resulting pass is noisy and I can't figure out how to get it to produce a smooth noise free light.

I am using Irradiance/LightCache for GI. Sampler and Global DMC settings below.

    Sampler:
    Min Shadin Rate 28
    Min/Max Subdivs 1/5
    Noise Thresh 0.01

    Global DMC:
    Min Samples 16
    Adaptive Amount 0.85
    Noise Thresh 0.005

    Thanks for any help,
    Travis

I think your Max Subdivs is a bit too low and the Noise thresh for the sampler is a bit high too .
With that being said getting super clean lightselect element in a reasonable time is still tricky with the new image sampler at least for me, so I am waiting with you for some answers =D .
    Best regards,

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Beauty pass looks good with the settings I rendered with, and the reflection pass is ok. There is a bit of noise in it but it is well within the realm of exceptable quality. The final setting will get upped a bit but not much. If the light pass had this much noise I would be happy but as you can see it is much worse.

I am running a test with the Max samples at 100, and sampler noise dropped to 0.005 to see what happens.

Things behind glass get a bit of a rough time of it, I'd try turning off the glass to shadow casting and see if it changes to beauty too much.

The contribution of the Light pass to the Beauty pass is most likely much less than Reflection pass and in order to optimize the rendering V-Ray fires less samples to it.
Increasing the IS settings even more should help to generate smoother Lighting element but the question is is it worth to clear the noise from that render element?
Have you got any issues with it in the compositing stage so far?
