  • Hard crash on a large scene - could someone have a quick look at a 3dsmax_minidump?

    Heya Folks!

I've got a big scene which keeps hard crashing, it seems to be on the same bucket so I'm gradually turning things on and off, is there any chance anyone can have a quick look at a 3dsmax dump file and see if there's any clues?

    3dsmax_minidump.zip

    Cheers!

This is wrecking my head at the minute - turning off some layers has merely shifted the crash to a different bucket - it's unfortunately too large and unwieldy to send too! Lots of external vrmesh files, forest, displacement, udims and the rest...

In the past I had to merge group by group. Basically, I did it by alphabet and them I started breaking it down per element in the group was causing the issue. My last problem scene was a little box that when I didn't merge the box, the scene was fine.

Yep - ended up just redoing the changes from whatever was the last good version, I think it was a corrupt forest object or a wobbly material assignment judging by the bucket it kept dying on and a material override rendering successfully.

I get crashes when my imported trees from Evermotion or some other modeler have normal maps in the bump slot so I have to convert them. It would be great if vray converter converted those too.

Also if you have crash issues you can make a thread on the area and I'll investigate them for you as long as you put an email address in the Max crash CER reports. If not, keep the report numbers and I'll look them up and tell you where it's crashing, if it's a Max issue. It's not super descriptive on plugins however...

Thanks for that and congrats! Great to have someone in AD that's also a long time vray user!

I love Vray! My favorite renderer hands down and the only cert I have... keke. Happy to help in any way possible.
