  • Vrayblend material and material displacement

    hi there,

this is the second time I ran into this issue, thought I´d post it now:
I have a particle flow with some particles, that need to change materials and displacement over time. Thats why I need to use material displacement, usually I just go with Vraydisplacement modifier.
But apparently material displacement doesn´t work, when its inside a vrayblendmaterial. i only found one other post about this and there it said, it could be fixed in the future, so I guess nobody else complained and it didn´t get a fix? I´m on Max 2016 and Vray 3.4 right now...

Ok, I figured out to work around it: I can simply use a composite map in the displacement slot and put the material that needs to be displaced in the first slot of the vrayblend material.
So I´m not blending two seperate materials with a displacement map each, but rather only blend the materials AND the displacement on one of the two materials.

Also when used in the particle flow the displacement doesn´t take into consideration the amount of displacement in the map section, so I need to also take care of the amount in the composite map.

The only problem I´m having now: The material displacement doesn´t have the option to displace the material with negative black values. Is there any workaround to this?

Hm, normally this would be done by checking the option "Use object material" and adjusting the min/max bounds in the VRayDisplacementMod modifier; I have to check if this will work for pflow.

      Best regards,

I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Ah, I never used that option. Unfortunately Pflow doesn´t take Vraydisplacement modifier in consideration, I just tried that out.
So either having the ability to control negative displacement directly in the Vraymaterial section or having Pflow reconize Vraydisplacement modifier would be a great addition...
