  • Black buckets/parts of buckets when rendering particles

    Hi,
rendergin some simple pparticle animation and we have issue with some buckets rendergin either black or partially black.
Is this some sort of problém similar to opacity being rendered with stochastic option???

Particle materiál is simple, just color indiffuse and self illumination...and motion blur...so no opacity.

Any idea how to sort this out? Were under deadline and this is somewhat unfortunate error.

    Cheers

    M

i had exactly this. i had to change bucket size back up to 48. i`d shrunk it down to 24.
i`m sure it has a technical explanation (something about firing rays ? i think it went over my head) but the bigger bucket size seemed to fix it.

Thanks for info i will raise the minimal AA samples to 2 or 3 to see if it fixes the issue.

Yep, it's that aa 1 doesn't give vray enough chances to find something in a bucket. Must do this myself on a render that's got some sparkle.

yep i can confirm raising AA fixes it.
I will have to learn to make this a rule of thumb somehow....perhaps it would be a good idea to place a warning in the vray log window???

It's a hard thing to know really, would vray warn on every empty bucket of potentially having something in it? The only way it sees anything in a scene is raytracing at the minute, otherwise there's have to be some kind of prepass. Vlado may have some sneaky ideas about that though.

You guys are all awesome. This just saved me hours of figuring out what the heck was going on with my render. Kudos to you all.

i had this again but this time in a scene without particles.
It happened in darker areas, some buckets were completely black.
                  Raisin AA fixed it.

You kind of know when this is going to happen from the way progressive rendering reacts However in progressive, since its not using buckets, it always came out ok in the end.

Maybe there could be something done about this in the code Vlado?
I can send you scene if you want that does exactly this if you want?

                  Cheers

                    Mac OS X Mojave
                    V-Ray: 4.03.03.0001 (Feb 2019)
                    Maya 2018

I have the black bucket issue.

I have tried "raising" the AA (from default of 2 to 4), didn't work.

I have tried changing out the older texture calls (asset originally created with V-Ray 3.52.03.

There are the only two "solutions" I have seen posted, and neither worked in my case.

The rendering indication at the bottom of the Maya window gets to 99% and stays there.

The timing estimate on the V-Ray frame buffer gets to a number (probably the number where the image should have completed) and stays there.

Current render time says 3h 49m 5.9s and estimates completion time to be two minutes later, but the render was started 14 hours ago.

I have a deadline and this has been a problem for 5 days, and I could not post before today.

                    Help!

                    - Jim

I can't. Under NDA. I could send you pictures of all of my render settings. I sent a scene to Sofia with geometry in the same location, same shaders, same lights and same camera, but they were unable to produce the error.

Right, without a scene it's hard to reproduce the issue. But it sounds like you are unable to get any render out at all? If that's the case could you show me what you are experiencing? The link you posted is to this same thread.
