  • Vray 3.5 Beta - Materials in Material Editor don't update while IPR is running

As the thread title says, materials in Material Editor don't update while IPR is running. They, however, update accordingly in VFB itself. For some strange reason this only happens after running at least 2 IPR renders in a row. With the 1st IPR render for the current scene, materials update fine in Material Editor.

Another side effect of this problem is that even after you stop IPR, the materials in Material Editor don't update to show the changes made while IPR was running. Not even if you close Material Editor and open it again. The material preview are only updated when you change some setting in the materials after IPR is stopped or when you reload the scene. I can imagine if you've made changes to a lot of materials while in IPR, it will be a big problem to go and start changing their settings again just to force an update. In this case reloading the scene will be faster as a workaround but still is a pain. If one is careless they might think their materials look certain way by looking at the Material Editor when in fact they might render quite differently.

Hm, this actually works fine for me - the materials update fine. Are you using the old compact material editor or the Slate one?

    Best regards,

I'm using Slate. I'll check if it behaves the same on one of the other workstations and if it does I'll send the problematic scenes for inspection.

Is there any new info about this problem? Materials still don't update for me in Slate Material Editor when I'm using IPR in Vray 3.50.04. I see the changes only in VFB. No one else experience this issue?

I made a video, see attached below. Any workaround besides using the Compact Material Editor? Compact Material Editor shows updates fine but I really can't go back to using it anymore. Building materials in it is a pain after using nodes for so long. It's so much faster to create materials and easier to understand how they're built.

I noticed that this issue still appears in Vray Next Beta 2.

And in Next Update 1. Seems to happen in more complex scenes only.
