  • 3.5 Beta 2 - Lens Effects Stuff...

    Vlado,

Seems to me that we now have Lens Effects working well with Material ID, but if I use Object ID with another object in the scene, it seems to not work but "tag along" with the Material ID object. Is the Object ID not working yet? Or perhaps I'm not operating it correctly? I assign each ID, Object and Material, first, and then render.

Also, the renderer/VFB while using the Denoiser RE seems to want to automatically switch from the Display RGB mode to the Display effectsResult mode after a period of time. It seems very cool because the render is often pretty clean by then, however, two questions please:

    1) How is the amount of time calculated before the automatic switch?

    2) It would be nice to have the option to turn this automatic switching of display modes on and off in the VFB. There are times when I just want to see the render in RGB and then switch (hopefully with the aforementioned effectsResult VFB button!) when I feel like doing so.

    Thanks so much!

    -Alan

Hm, can you post a scene?

The first time it happens is when four passes through the image have been calculated.

Yes, there will be an option eventually.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I'm experiencing an issue with lens effects too. I'm not sure if I need to create a new thread so I'll post this here.

The glows "blink" when changing lens fx parameters. I recorded a video (attached below). Hopefully it's easy to fix.

Anyways, a big THANKS for the work on lens fx so far. I can't imagine I had to stop my renders in older versions just to see how the lens fx look. Now it's so much easier to iterate changes when it's real-time and the image is still being rendered. Also the ability to change the Intensity thresholds after starting the render. And last but not least, vignetting doesn't disappear when lens fx are used! Immensely helpful stuff for me. Good job! I hope you're preparing a nice highlight of the reworked lens fx somewhere in the promo video of version 3.5 to show all the nice new functionality described above.

        Ah, very interesting, thanks.

        Great, thanks!

        Sure.

In the attached file the white sphere is Material ID 4 and the blue sphere is Object ID 7 with Lens Effects is set up accordingly. Render the scene and both spheres will show Lens Effects regardless which masking mode is on by itself.

OK - For some reason I cannot upload a file at this moment but if you create a simple file and assign two objects in Len Effects, one with Material ID and one with Object ID and render it out - can you can separate the two effects after rendering? Perhaps later on the file will upload.

PS - Oh, and I echo Alex's sentiments above!

I think I understand where the confusion is coming from... The object ID and material ID are currently only taken into once when the render starts. If you change them later on, you won't see their effect until you do a new render. It is difficult to make them interactive right now. When we implement something like the Cryptomatte masking scheme, then we could extract the masks interactively or after the rendering.
