Vray 3.5 Beta - Region render stays noisy in effectsResult channel with lens fx

I have a scene where a region render stays noisy if lens effects are used and you're looking at the "effectsResult" channel. Clicking on "Update" in the lens fx panel doesn't help. The only thing that updates the image is changing parameters in the lens fx panel.

We are already thinking of a better way of deciding how often the Lens effects will be applied during a progressive rendering. The thing is, they are applied in the beginning of the render and depending on how complex the scene is, it's very possible that you see them applied again when the render is finished.

Thanks for the reply. That's not the main problem, though. Maybe I should have explained better, sorry for the confusion. Update frequency aside (yes, it could be better), the main problem here is that stopping the render or clicking "Update" doesn't update the effectsResult channel but changing any parameter of lens fx does. Is this on purpose and what's the reason behind this? At the moment if I want to update the effectsResult channel instead of clicking the Update button, which is the logical thing to do, I have to change something in the lens fx parameters to force an update. Let me know if this makes sense or if I should explain better.

Hi,

first we will fix the update button to always recalculate effects. When you hit the "Stop" button, this is aborting the rendering and no effects are calculated. This is done intentionally.

Thanks for the clarification, Asen. If I stop a render prematurely would I still be able to denoise it if I have the denoise element active? It would be nice because sometimes I decide that there's no need to wait for it to render any more but I want the denoiser to clean the image when I stop it.

In the VFB "Stop" button always means abort - no effects are applied, no files are written etc. Since Max 2017 there are "Stop" and "Cancel" buttons in the progress window. "Cancel" is aborting and "Stop" is what you need - effects will be applied and files written. When you abort rendering you can still hit "Update" button in the Denoiser render element to denoise.

Ok, got it. Looks like I'll have to move on to Max 2017 in this case which I'm not too thrilled about.
