  • V-Ray freezing Google Chrome UI when rendering

    Hi,

I remember there was a bug that caused freezing of Google Chrome user interface whenever V-Ray was rendering. The bug was removed a few versions ago, but it seems to be re-introduced since V-Ray 3.4.

I have my 3dsmax.exe process at low priority, and low thread priority in system settings enabled, but despite that, as long as I am rendering, V-Ray seems to freeze some of the Google Chrome UI actions. It's mostly related to drop down menus and animations. As soon as I select a drop down menu of any kind, or text suggestion box of any kind pops up, Google Chrome always freezes for about 5-10 seconds.

I think it's more of a Chrome problem than V-Ray.

I thought that too, but other software that utilizes CPU at 100% does not freeze the UI, and some of the other renderers don't either

<shrug> I don't plan to spend time on it. If it bothers you that much, set the rendering theads to one or two less that your actual core count so that Chrome can use them.

That's fair enough I do realize it's not a priority issue. I do turn off one thread when I need to, but that's still 8.3% of rendering performance I am missing on constantly. If it's not worth fixing, then definitely just let it go
