vray 3.50.03 : error after install

When confronted with this in the past, I have succeeded in this way:

Reboot the machine. Manually uninstall Vray, Reboot again. Try installing again.

I'm having a similar issue. I also had it with 3.40.03. I can upgrade, but when i try to render max 2016 stops working (max has stopped working, windows is blablablabla...).
I tried installing the max service packs, i uninstalled it (also manually), rebooted, installed it, rebooted > still no solution.
I've been at it for hours now as I really want it solved. I uninstalled everything from chaosgroup (vray for rhino, the common files, 3ds max plugins, etc..) and installed only the newest version and it just stops working.

I believe it crashes when trying to show the v-ray framebuffer. I did not have the issue with vray 3.30 and i don't have it on any other workstation in the office. It's only the workstation in my home office that crashes.

So, I've narrowed it down to just the framebuffer. If I turn of the v-ray framebuffer, i can render. Showing the framebuffer (even an empty one on a new scene) crashes max.
